Over 100 members gathered at the Constantia Cottage Restaurant in East Runton on Thursday evening for their Annual Dinner.
The guest speaker was Baroness Shirley Williams of Crosby, who had also spoken at a meeting at the UEA earlier in the evening.
While she travelled from one event to the next members enthusiastically supported a fund raising ’auction of pledges’. Numerous items donated included boating around Wells Harbour, touring local Round Tower Churches, painting lessons and a meal cooked by Norman Lamb MP.
Norman Lamb MP also spoke to members, giving an insight in to the original decision to form a coalition with the Conservatives after the 2010 General Election. He went on to detail some of the many ways in which Liberal Democrats had successfully implemented parts of their manifesto whilst working in coalition with the Conservatives.
After only a short break to sample the local culinary delights Baroness Williams talked about her own background and how it helped to develop the principles which she still holds with determination - those of Liberty, Freedom and Fairness. She spoke in particular of the need to fight hard to retain these principles with regard to Education and the NHS.
Norman Lamb said ‘It was great to see Shirley so warmly welcomed on her return to North Norfolk. She gave a fascinating talk and I admire her greatly.’
The sustained applause suggested she had provided a welcome boost to the candidates and supporters about to contest seats on the North Norfolk District Council.
