NNDC Conservatives failure to consult with partners disappointing say Lib Dems

Yesterday at North Norfolk District Council Lib Dem calls for consultation to refine the Conservative proposed Corporate Plan were rejected by Tory councillors. The move came after the Scrutiny Committee at NNDC referred the document back to Cabinet to make amendments.

“Last night’s meeting was a real step backward for openness and transparent governence, it shows that the Conservatives are unwilling to admit they needed some extra time to get this highly important document right.” said Glyn Williams, Cllr for Worstead Ward.

The Lib Dem group called for consultation with bodies such as Parish Councils and Local Area Partnerships; organisations identified by the Conservative administration as key to delivering the Council’s aims. However, the future of LAP’s are in doubt after the Corporate Plan called for a review.

“It’s disappointing that Parish and Town Councils and Local Area Partnerships weren’t given the opportunity to feed into this important process at this early stage. These organisations are vital for their communities and perform important functions. Consultation with these bodies could reveal areas that the Conservative administration have missed.” said Cllr Eric Seward

Commenting further Cllr Richard Smith said “The fact that the Conservatives failed to tackle with any substance the comments made by the Scrutiny Committee speaks volumes about how this administration will operate. For example, we highlighted that the key issue of improved broadband provision was missing. If this document went through a proper consultation process important areas such as this wouldn’t be missed out. To say issues will be added in later is not acceptable”
