Liberal Democrats have long campaigned for improvements to our local rail service. Now Norman Lamb MP has supported a motion of the North Norfolk District Council proposed by Liberal Democrats Eric Seward (North Walsham North) and Richard Smith (Sheringham North) on September 21.
The motion urged that North Norfolk District Council “take an active interest” in the franchise renewal for rail services in our area and lobby for an enhanced service on the Bittern Line which runs between Norwich and Sheringham.
Norman Lamb has written to Theresa Villiers, the Minister of State at the Department of Transport, to say:
“I strongly support the motion. The Bittern Line is of huge importance to the local area. and I firmly believe that enhancing it will be of great economic and social benefit.”
“The Bittern Line is used not only by local people commuting or travelling for leisure, but also the thousands of tourists that visit Norfolk each year. Beyond the obvious direct benefits for those that use the service, enhancing the line will therefore bring wider economic benefits to the region, where tourism is a major industry.”
